End of Recordset problem

Hello,

I am using an Access 97. There is a form within the database whic is based upon a query which just gathers together data from 2 different tables which are linked via an Id number field.

When a new record is created a message appears saying
"You are at the end of the recordset"

The database does not then allow you to add any new records to the database.

There is about 26,000 records returned with this query. So far i have amended the Query to return fewer rows of information and this has not been successful. I have also tried removing some of the data from the 2 tables it is based upon and still the problem is there.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime i am checking to see if it has the same problem when converted in to an Access 2K database.

Hi,

Your problem is caused because the form is based on the query which contains a join - not individual tables.
Because Access only looks at the form recordset - which is the query - it is not possible for it to determine which fields should go into which table if you were to add records or update existing ones.
This is why you cannot add or modify existing records.

The way around this is to have a form based on one table, with a subform based on the second table, because they are only saved into the table itself.
