Encypting with private key on PGP 6.5.8.ckt Build 2 (freeware)

That is OK.
The public key has the purpose to encrypt the data whereas the private key has to decrypt the data.
If you are encrypting for your own purposes you should use the conventional encryption which doesn't use an assymetric encryption method.
