Hi,recently started maintaining a win 2000 server with veritas backup exec the version is 9.00 rev 4367.Question i was asked from boss is if the data is encrypted thats backed up.if someone found the tapes can someone get the info?
If not what are my options to Encrypt data?

THANKS Robert.....

The tapes cannot be encrypted with BE9. Encryption was a new feature introduced with BE11d.
You can password protect the tapes with BE9. Theoretically you can't read the tape without the password. I don't know how effective this is though.

Thanks for Quick reply.does BE11d have any major bugs?
How long has it been out??

also can i upgrade BE9 or do i uninstall BE9 and do
new install with BE11d?

Know who has BEST price for BE11d??

THANKS robert....

I think it's fair to say that many people struggled with some aspects of BE11d. However, if you stick to the simple things (like backing up files), and install the latest build (7170) it should be fairly trouble free. It's been out since November last year.
I think you can upgrade over the top from 9, but don't quote me on that.

One last ? Boss is OK with using a password to protect the backup but i can't find where you setup a password.can you verify that BE9 can password protect data....

version BE11d is almost a $$ 1GRAND

THANKS Robert...

1 grand is nothing when you consider the cost damage when you have lost that tape and somebody gets a hold of the data.

Just FYI Backup Exec 9.1 is no longer supportted by Symantec it best effort. It will EOL shortly.
