Empty recycle bin - error 1148

Whenever I try to empty my recycle bin (by right click, Empty Recycle Bin) I get the error "Cannot delete file. File system error (1148)."

If I open the Bin & delete files individually (or in small groups) it works OK.

Has anyone seen this - any suggestions?
