I have an IP500 4.2(4) using embedded vmail that will not play the voicemail prompts after you log into a mailbox, just dead air. I had been configuring new systems and upgrading them to 4.1 and this was fine. I received the 4.2(4) CD and loaded it on my pc and then upgraded a new IP500 to this version, configured it and everything works fine except this. Any ideas? Thanks

You also need to upgrade the prompts on the Embedded card, look on the Admin disc, instructions and files are on there.

What disc are you talking about? The Admin disc just tries to reinstall the Admin Suite on my computer when I put it in the cd drive.
I also looked at the installation manual for Embedded Voicemail 4.2 and it says the following, which sounds to me like I would not have to do this:
For IP Office 3.0 and higher, Embedded Voicemail memory cards are supplied with the necessary prompt files preinstalled.
Previous releases required that the prompts be initially transferred using TFTP from a PC running IP Office
Manager. All the prompts for Embedded Voicemail can be found in the LVMSound folder on the IP Office Administrator
Applications CD. There are two sets, one for compressed memory cards in the G723 Files folder, and one for
uncompressed memory cards in the G711 Files folder. Each set contains a folder for each supported language.

You have downloaded the Admin 4.2.4 zip file?

If you extract the file on C:\ the you'll have a map called
C:\ADMIN4_2_4\ if you browse to C:\ADMIN4_2_4\LVMSOUND\G711 Files\ then you'll see a G711 zip file extract that file then read the word doc (Upgrade_to_4.2.doc) and do step by step as told then you'll be able to upgrade the files.

Sorry about that I did find what you were referring to. It still doesn't say you have to do this for IP500, it says the following for the 406 or Small Office.
This document contains the installation instructions for upgrading IP Office systems with Integral Voicemail to use the 4.2 release of the IP Office core switch software.
This procedure is necessary when upgrading Small Office or IP406v2 systems with 4.0 or 4.1 software installed. For earlier versions of the software, refer first to “Instructions for Upgrading Integral Voicemail for 4.0 Software”.
Also, If I open system status, I see the LVMsound folder with everything in there.

Thanks

Do you have the Avaya Manager software on your PC?

Make sure the open the config thru the manager change the TFTP Server IP Address configured on the System tab, and also that the File Writer IP Address is configured to be the IP address of you PC.
Save it, and leave the Manager open other wise the TFTP server will be closed.

Open a dos box and goto the map;

C:\.......\ADMIN4_2_4\LVMSOUND\G711 Files\G711\

then typ the following;
send711.bat xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of your IPOffice.

You are not the first person to fall foul of the Docs, but as they add new features the prompts change so you do need to upgrade the prompts and it can't hurt either, you also can't be sure how long the Disty has had the embedded card to know what prompts are on. Do as Bas says and you'll be good, if you can't do it that way use the embedded file management tool on Manager.
