I am trying to set up an auto notification system that will update selected people of success/failure of system processes. I want to send e-mail directly to the exchange server bypassing Outlook. Has anybody attempted this?

I have worked on sending messages thru Outlook from VB, but havn't found references for any other methods.

Thanks in advance!!

Have a look at Collaboration Data Objects (CDO). It's designed for use in unattended execution situations and works well with Exchange.

This will be running on a 2000 Server, so I think I'll need CDOSYS. Is this correct?

I am not developing on server, can I test this from a pc? I am not familiar with this COM object so I will be doing some major research very quickly.

Thanks again in advance!!

Set a project reference to Microsoft CDO for Exchange 2000 Library if you have it. That's CDOEX.dll and is an update to CDOSYS when Exchange Server 2000 is installed.

CDOSYS will be OK too, that's the library for Windows 2000 without Exchange Server.
