email using PHP

Hello again?
I am using mail through PHP and I am wondering what it would take to format emails to have web formatting. If I just use HTML, it comes through with the html tags visible. Is there a setting in PHP that tells the email to be formatted. For example, I want to generate an email with an image at the top followed by some formatted info, followed by the companies signiture. When a web user orders a sample, I desire to give them a receipt that looks the same as if they came into the store. Am I in the right place for this question?
