Hello,

Does anyone know of an open source email server software for linux? I am looking for a good mail server in linux. I currently do all my mail serving in windows but i would like to change it over to linux. Does anyone have somthing they can recommend.

Thanks,

All Linux distributions ship with at least one brand of SMTP server. Some are distributed with multiple servers and give you a choice of which to install.

Off the top of my head, here are three possibilities:
Sendmail
PostFix
qmail

One vote for postfix, amavisd, antivir and spamassassin.
With a proper configuration and some tweaking this
combination can reduce spam and virus problems to a very
low level and all are fairly easy to deal with.

From one of my previous posts:
A lot of people profess qmail. I don't have any experience with it, but it is reknowned for its speed and security. The only downsides I've heard about it are that it is hard to integrate spam filters and virus scanners and slow to integrate new features.

You can install Qmail with spam filters and virus scanners by following the instructions at qmailrocks.org. Even a newbie could install it by following the instructions on this site.

I like the qmail packages available at qmailrocks.org. Good suggestion Randy.
