Hi, I want to create an email server. I have registered accounts at no-ip.com. Can I use this as my dns server. Also can someone tell me how i should go about setting this email server up, like what software to use and maybe basic configuration. I'm trying to get around using my isp's dns server.

ok, as part as the answer, I will post what I posted in the other thread.

You can use your no-ip or dns2go to refer to your server as MX record.
But, you will still need to use the DNS from your ISP or other, no choice there, something has to resolve it.
Why is it you want to get around that anyway?

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

k, thats fine nevermind getting around it. How do i find out what dns to use from my isp. I'm using road runner, and i can recieve mail but can't send it.

hey marcs41, do you have an instant messenger system, like aol instant messenger, or irc. If you don't mind could u send me your screen name so maybe we can get this resolved faster. you can email me at ewettach@yahoo.com thanks.

Nevermind I think I have it working going through my dns of road runner. Thank you so much for you help.

K wait everything works by sending email to like yahoo.com and hotmail.com but i can't send to aol.com. i can recieve but cannot send.

point your outgoing mail to soemthing like relay.YOURISP.com , whatever it is for your 'normal' mail.
Your ISP's server will send it for you and you don't have to worry about the DNS.
If AOL gets refused, it could well be that your ISP is blacklsted with AOL. Check that.

About instant messenger, we don't do that here normally, because someone else may benefit from the posts.

k this is what i have found out. When i send email with my normal road runner account everything works of course. Im instructed to config my email client like this:

POP3=pop-server.jam.rr.com
SMTP=smtp-server.jam.rr.com

Im currently using a dns server that i found in ipconfig that is in no part of the client configuartion above. The ip im using now works, except for aol. Should i change the ip from the one im using now to smtp-server.jam.rr.com?

you should use the ip of your ISP, that is the simplest, so it is prob. the dns of jam.rr.com

jam.rr.com nameserver = dns-pri-01.texas.rr.com
jam.rr.com nameserver = dns-sec-02.texas.rr.com

dns-pri-01.texas.rr.com internet address = 24.93.40.32
dns-sec-02.texas.rr.com internet address = 24.93.40.33

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.
