Take a look at CommunigatePro by Stalker Software. It has a nice web interface, is rock solid, and will scale into clusters if you need that much.
It is free, although without paying for a registration, all outgoing mail is tagged with a line that says something like:
Email sent with unregistered version of Communigate Pro
We've registered it, and I love it.

There is also the mail Horde -
Similar to squirrel mail in that it will sit on a usual GNE/Linux mail server (sendmail,postfix,exim/procmail) and provide a webmail interface. Saying that - I prefer squirrel mail at the moment.
