the exchange server are sending out email at a very slow rate and does email stay in the internet mail service queue for a very long time.normally nothing will go in the queue.
i cant find anything wrong with network connectivity.
does anyone have an idea why the email are queueing up all of a sudden?????

leased line or dialup? shared line for web browsing? service provider problems?

Check your stats on how much traffic you have on your line and consider an upgrade, check if someone is sending 30Mb files around the world (it happens).

sorry for the lack of information...
leased line and no problems with the ISP
it was like there was a bottleneck..everything went back to normal automatically after i deleted some outbound messages in the queue.the message size that appears at the message detail does not realy show the correct size...is it bytes or kb???most of them was 1200000 of size but according to the users it was nothing more than 1 mb.
my impression was also that is was an email with an abnormal size but what else can cause the mail to queue??
just so that i can do a more thorough check next time.
queues are processed fifo. But if one gets stuck (server down at far end) then you will probably get a back log.

If you have a big email going through and the far end server is being slow you will definitely have a problem. Probably nothing to worry about.

Hi,

I am currently having this problem, but have been able to speed things up by stopping and starting MS Ex. Services. I have found the Problem Email, an Idiot decided to email us a huge Database!!!, however I cannot delete this using the delete option in the queues. The message is shown as pending. Please help, no-one else seems to be able to.

Thanks in Anticipation

Steve

Hi All,

Fixed it!!

Note Date of Pending Email, incoming queue

Stopped all Microsoft Exchange Services (Control Panel)

Located directory called ExchSrv

Used File Find on Exchsvr, using advanced search for files greater than 10kb.

Sort the Search results by Date

Compare dates to that that you noted from Incoming queue

Match the date and delete file.

Reboot Server or manually restart MS Exchange Services.

I hope this helps someone solve this problem in less time than it took me!!!

Cheers

Steve
