Email address exchange between organaizations?

My company has just acquired another company and would like to keep them as a separate active directory domain but have the exchange servers exchange email addresses.

I'm guessing that I have to setup and active directory trust between the two organizations but are there any other steps I need to do besides that?

You don't necessarily need to have the 2 domains. You can handle all this using a single domain, hence saving money and resources to support it.
