Emacs Vs. Vi for C++ Programming? 1

hello! how are you?
can you tell me which is better for c++ programming, Emacs or Vi?
why people use one over other?
and why does your C++ source file(.cpp or .h files) mess up when you transfer from MS-visual C++ to linux system?
what causes that?
and can you avoid them if possible?
using MS visual C++ is a lot convenient. where do people write their C++ codes in the real world?

Emacs, it's a little bit tough to learn, but will make you so much more productive, you won't believe it. Get the orielly book "Learning GNU Emacs", and you'll never look back! This is the best real world editor there is, hands down.

As far as why your files don't look right when you switch OS, it's pretty simple. When you press enter under windows, it inserts a \c \m, which is a carrige return and line feed, but unix only uses a \c, so when it see's a \m too, it screws up...

To fix this, you can ftp the files as ASCII, which may help, or you can write a perl/shell/emacs script to remove them or add them for you.
