Hello,
I have an Emachine that won't always recognize when a cd is inserted (music, data or program). I have to keep refreshing windows explorer or even re-boot to have the disk recognized. I've tried a different drive that worked fine in a different PC, but same problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I have seen many problems with eMachines Drives. Most are solved by putting in a different drive on the same IDE Channel as the hard disk. For some reason, about 30% eMachine systems have a problem with the Secondary IDE Channel. You need a Dual-headed IDE Cable, because most eMachines don't come with one.

Also be sure to set the HDD to Master and the CD to Slave or use an EIDE cable with the CS (Cable Select) Jumper option.

Hope this helps.
