editing path 1

Does win98 have a nice easy gui interface for editing path entries (like the environment tab within System on WinNT). Or can it only be done by editing autoexec.bat?

Sorry if this is basic stuff, I am a basic user!!

From the taskbar

Start Run msconfig

From here you can edit autoexec.bat, config.sys, system.ini, etc.

What program requires a path nowadays?

You can't edit the autoexec.bat in msconfig, only system.ini and win.ini.

In Windows ME, you can add variables to the Environment tab in msconfig.

Maybe you can avoid your problem by opening the actual
folder before a run command is given. The folder will
be regarded as included in the path.

Eds tip was helpful, hence the vote. The msconfig.exe is what i wanted. As for editing the autoexec.bat via msconfig - It seems to allow it on my machine (Win 98SE), so I am not sure which version you are running.

As for which program requires a path. I have installed JDK and it need adding so i could access the java applications in JDK blah blah blah\bin.

Windows ME?, I haven't got it, sorry.

As for the folder thing, thank you, but i think the PATh way is more convenient (for me at least).

I still don't think a path is neccessary in the autoexec.bat.

Create a key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

Look over the entries for an example. ANY program defined here can be run by simply going to Start>Run, and typing the executable name.
