Edit boot.ini when machine won't boot at all 2

I created a brand new Winodws 2000 member server
The C: drive is on the IDE Secondary port 3 gig drive
I want to add another 76 gig D: drive on the ATA-100 port which is the IDE Primary

But when I rebooted the machine the 76 gig became C: and it would not boot. So I disconneted it and rebooted to the original c: Then I edited the boot.ini file and made the
Multi(0)Disk(0)Rdisk(1)Partition(1)
Now it won't boot again
How can I edit the boot.ini to set it back to???
Multi(0)Disk(0)Rdisk(0)Partition(1)

I think you should create an NT boot disk. Boot your server using the NT boot disk. After the system boots, you will be able to modify the boot.ini file properly.

To create boot disk:
1) format a floppy disk
2) (From a similar machine or from the proper installation CD rom) copy NTDETECT, NTLDR, and BOOT.ini to the A: drive floppy
3) you may have to adjust the boot.ini to point to the proper drive.

well
u can boot from any win98 bootable CD or floppy
and then insert ur win2000 server CD
then u can run makeboot.exe which is in the bootdisk directory of the CD this will create the boot floppies automatically
now boot from the floppies and select repair
select to repair only the boot sector
i'm sure this will help u out

I was able to boot to the console and copy a boot.ini from a floppy disk to the D:\drive and everything is fixed DougP, MCP
