We have a current server running win2003 w/ our user/shared files but also need to use it as a print server now.

Is there an easy way to move/migrate all the printers from a windows 2000 server to this windows 2003 server ?

i heard of the print migrator but will this work from 2000 to 2003 ?

thanks guys/gals

Should do.

Can but try it, however it will stop your print spooler when it is restoring the printers to the 2003 server so do it in off hours if you already have any printers there.

As to the clients we changed there print mappings through the login script via KIX which seemed to work well enough.

Microsoft Print Migrator 3.1 is able to move printers between servers & operating systems. It should move them between your 2000 & 2003 server perfectly fine.

It will create a .cab file with all the drivers, share info. etc that you need.
You then dump that on the W2003 system and rerun the util on there to restore everything.

I actually run it on my server in backup mode every time I add a new printer or driver and then copy the .CAB off. Just in case something happens to the server and I have to get printing up and running again quickly.

i believe i ran the old one, but when we tried to bring into 2003 it gave some error ??

and update w/ status......stay tuned.........thanks gang

hey guys,

on the win 2k server where i'm moving FROM
do i select:
there is listed
Printers(4)
Printer drivers(10)
Printer Ports(15)
Printer Processores(2)
Print Monitors(5)

which do i choose to EXPORT ?
so i can then go to the win 2003 server and IMPORT ?
thanks again

me again,
i just recieved this message after i only Exported the Printers
then i was on the win2003 and did an import, here is the error:

Kernel Drivers Blocked
Warning: Kernel Mode Drivers(version 2) are blocked on the target machine. Disabled Kernel Mode driver blocking and re-run Printer Migrator. Ignoring this warning(cancel button) will result in driver installation, but because they are kernel mode drivers - a serious problem with any dependent print queue could potentially bring down the system. Selecting OK will result in a restore termination.

O BOY !!!!!!!!

HI pctekk

Did you every find out how to disable kernal mode drive blocking ?

Cheers

Andrew

start
run
gpedit.msc (do this form the new server the printers are going to)
In Group Policy under local machine goto
Administrative Templates
Printers
in the right pane double click disallow installing of kernel mode drivers and disable it.
start
run
gpupdate
then import the printers.

Hope this helps,

Aaron
