hey guys,

just wondering who has set up the easiest way to transfer a call to another extenstion.

i have one of those customers who just cant get away from the whole key system thing!!!!!! they have a partner system, but really like some of the features of the ip office.

I feel your pain. The correct way to transfer is "transfer" ext # "transfer" or if you have a User button then hit that button if the User is idle and "transfer" when the User is busy it won't work like that though. You might want to look into Softconsole ehem sorry "Receptionist" I mean. Then they can use the computer for transfers.

You could make up park buttons and make it look like lines on the partner. then they can put the call on the button and anyone can pick it up. we do it a lot. customers seem to like it.

Kevin you can also just create line appearances on the phones for that :-)

You are right and i didnt even think of that. I guess i am used to having T1/PRI and then trying to make it look keyed:)
And with R5 you can even make the auto line selection go to the line directly and not have to dial 9 to get out.

keyed IP Office is just not right but apparently people were demanding it. seems hard for some people to change and dial 9 (and not 911 by accident hahaha) so they rather have the line appearance. Change seems to be harder for some people then for others.

Kevin, did you say automatic line selection? By this do you mean by pressing 9 it will automatically pick up the same line unless it busy, instead of doing the old round robin? I know i could do the round robin with different ARS forms for each line, but that gets cumbersome.

I always thought that there are limits on how many line appearances on the phones per systems otherwise the system will acts up. Is that true or not. I personally had 2 customers that have line appearances and the system (4.2) acts crazy and when I removed the line appearances, I never had a problem after that. If some one confirms that I really appreciate it.

The ipo should not have line appearances at all but that is my opinion !
It is old fashion outdated and stupid way of working

You can make it so when a user picks up the phone it will grab the line appearance instead of the call appearance.

i think the limit is 10 phones. you can have a line show up on 10 phones.

Thats why i use park buttons. you can put them on all phones and let users pick up calls easily.

here it comes: got a customer with ALL sets and all lines on it. All 4412 and 4424 sets and 8 or 9 lines. They work on all 50 sets but I agree with tlpeter it should not be done and it is stupid, but the customer insisted on it.

Just tell the customer it can not be done that way but in a different way and tell them how sorry you are and you feel with them etc etc etc :-)

we call appearence keys CALL keys not line keys as they are used for internall calls too.

our customers like call keys as they can ignore an incoming call and use the second call key to make an out bound call.

the alcatel still uses a similar feature call Gen Res (general resource) keys, but then the alcatel is a more traditional switch.

sorry getting off topic....

Sales (sorry for swearing here) sold the system as a keyed system to the customer. They knew that this is what can be done and sold it as that and the customer would not have purchased the system without that feature. They migrated from Partner to Magix (also keyed what a nuisance) and the to IP Office, should they outgrow that one and have to go CM then they are finally not able to put line appearances on any more.
