Hi

I am running arcserve 2000 advanced edition on windows 2000.

My brick level backup isn't working. It is showing me an error of

E6804 Failed to start backup (DBNAME=dbaxchg2, EC=Backup Agent error -- (356) "Try the backup later. Another backup is running on the server"

Not sure if this is the error that is causing the problem but it is the only error on the activity log.

I can setup a manual job to backup mailboxes and that works. I have checked the account that Arcserve uses and it isn't locked and it is also a member of the backup operator group on the exchange server.

Can anyone help

thanks
Colin

Is the Exchange on the same Win 2000 box as your arcserve is? Did you check the ARCserve Backup agent RPC service? Is it started? Any error messages in the event log?

Cheers

Hi

Exchange is on another box
The service is running
Cannot see any arcserve errors in event log

Thanks

Hmm. Is the exchange job included in the "normal" backup job or do you have two separate backup jobs?
"Try the backup later. Another backup is running on the server"
This error message points to the later one.

When you do your manual backup job you only have one job running and that is probably why it is working when doing it manually.

Thanks for your help so far.

The job that we have been running is a single job. the only other thing that runs is the DB pruning job.

I have just gone through setting up a new job to see if that works.

The systems guy that talked me through it told me that we had to setup the information store, SRS and mailbox backup through the network places part and not through the arcserve client part (hope that makes sense). We do have the client installed on the exchange server (obviously because we wouldn't see it in the client section then!!)

Maybe taht will help a bit more

Colin

hmm. I am suddenly having the same problem. Backup has been working fine for a long time.

stop/restart all related services on the 2 different machine (backup & Exchange) does not help.

Symptom appeared after tape library failure, which crashed arcserve.

I will try and reboot exchange server tonight to see if that helps. Everything else appears normal.

W2K, Arcserve 11, Exchange box actually running older (Arcserve 2000) exchange, open file agents.

we had to reinstall the agent on the exchange server in order to get it to work

Hi ALL...

I think we running too fast in the wrong direction...

You get error ec= 356 on a brick level backup, when the RPC did not disconnect properly during the previous backup..

On the Exchange server, open regedit.
Go to HKLM/Software/CA/BrighStor ARcserve Backup/DSAgent/CurrentVersion/Agent/ Dbaxchg2

Lookf a Value "InBackup" it would be 1. set it to 0.
Recycle the Backup Agent RPC.

ALl woog work like a charm

Hope this Helps.

Cheers
