I did a search on the E6300 error and found that there are no specific set of answers for it. With that in mind, perhaps my setup and symptoms can trigger a response:

OS: Windows 2000 with current updates
Software: Brightstor Arcserve Backup r11.1 build 3060
Device: Exabyte VXA-2
Device Firmware version: 2101
Media: Exabyte V23 (230m) 80/160GB
Dates last cleaned: Jan. 25, 2005 and Feb. 21, 2005

Symptoms:

I am running a GFS backup schedule. The Daily tapes I use are Exabyte V6 20/40GB media. These incremental backups are working flawlessly.

Up until two weeks ago, the Full backups were working great too. Two weeks ago, the Friday Full backup encountered the famous E6300 Windows NT SCSI PORT Error. E3712 Unable to close session. (EC=Hardware Error)

I have no idea where to even begin. I've cleaned the drive, I've used two different tapes, and I've checked SupportConnect and that site is absolutely worthless.

Anything anybody can do to help or point me in the right direction would be very appreciated.

- TIA

Ck for updated SCSI controller driver and tape drive firmware.
Install ARCserve 11.1 SP1 if not done already.
Copy the portion of the tape log in here with the error.
disable the tape drive from within the OS Device Manager.
If there is anything else on the bus try removing it.
Ck system setup for a sharring of IRQs between the SCSI controller and something else.
