Hi Wayne,
Yes, I have a UCx in my lab and I've been testing it non stops for months now.
It basically works like a mix between a Norstar/BCM/CS1000.
There is are 2 main components: The UCx Call Server and the UCx Digital Gateway Call server comes in 50, 450 and 1000 sizes.
The UCx call server runs the IP phones and main Call Server functions. The digital gateway converts a BCM to a digital phone gateway that allows you to run M and T series 7000 phones. An SSD card unit is also available for the digital gateway. Starter systems can use up to 8 digital phones and 4 analog sets. These wire up with 66 blocks or an RJ45 convenience strip.
All systems can either work like a BCM/Norstar system with a Feature key to access features, or you can set the phones in CS1000 mode with no feature code, but access to features through the Services button on the phone and dialed features by * and # or the dedicated softkeys/autodial buttons.
UCx is designed right out of the box to work with SIP trunking, but PRI and Analog trunks can be used via Media Gateways. Asterisk and GSM trunking will work as well.
All generations of Nortel IP phones will work on this switch, as well as 3rd party SIP phones. I say all generations of Nortel IP phones, because I recently picked up some i2004 NTEX00 sets on ebay, new in the box from 2000 and at first couldn't get them to work, but with the help of an Emetrotel Engineer, we were able to get the phones running, so that officially means all generations of Nortel IP sets work on the system.
Nortel M7xxx and Txxx sets will work, and M2xxx and M3xxx are under development.
Licensing works per extension. So if you by 20 extensions, you buy all the licenses for those 20 extensions....instead of the old KRS way where you bought a license for each feature.
Phones have 8 CS1000 styled ring tones (so you can have the Meridian 1 style ring tones), Call Buzz, Configurable local dialpad tone, configurable CLID prompts, Paging zones, Overhead paging and Combo like the Feature 630 from Norstar, Nortel styled Call Park, Callers Log, Services menu, Easy to configure feature buttons, and many more features....
