DVR/ Media Center

I have a Pentium 4 1.8G CPU not being used. I would like to build a DVR/Media Center. Will this processor be adequate? The only thing I want to do is record TV, watch DVD's and listen to music. I have another computer and want to put this one to use. Also, I cannot get my motherboard to recognize my 500G hard drive. I could not find an updated BIOS version. It is a Gateway. Where could I possibly find an update? Any info would help me out?

Re the media centre, yes a 1.8GHz P4 will be powerful enough.

Re the motherboard, if you can find the model number search for it in Google and you should find something useful. How old is it? If you really can't find anything you could either buy a separate IDE (or SATA) card which should recognise the drive, or buy a new cheapo motherboard.
