DVD drive will lock the region.

The DVD drive I have will lock onto one region after I change the region 5 times. Apparently this cannot be cancelled after it has done so even if I reinstall the OS or move the drive to another computer. Although I only have region 2 DVDs so far, this happens to be a bit of a pain, as I was planning on getting some DVDs imported from the States. The drive I have is a CREATIVE DVD-ROM DVD1243E. If anyone knows of any way of getting round this I would be grateful. I can't understand this whole region nonsense anyway.

This is what you want

There are lower level utils that will flash the unit itself - but they're risky. If you want one, go for one that someone has tried and tested.

I won't use such utilities until I get a 2nd-hand DVD drive that I don't mind breaking.
