DVD contents stopped showing in My Computer ? 2

Hi
For no apparent reason, when I insert a CD or DVD into the drive, it has stopped auto reading it. If I go to My Computer, the drive is displayed only as DVD/CD-RW Drive, and not the title of the CD/DVD as it should. If I double click on it, I can access all it's contents as normal, it's just that the actual name of the disc no longer displays ???

Any thoughts ?

Yes, your Autoplay function has been deactivated...

to reactivate and assign an AutoPlay Handler, right click on the said drive, properties, AutoPlay Tab, there you have the options to tell windows what to do with the various CD/DVD that may be inserted into the drive...

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my drive is already set to prompt me for action upon installation of a new disc. It doesn't prompt me however.

Then I would suggest a program, like X-Setup Pro, to check and reset your AutoPlay Handlers...

(Trial DL is awailable)...

If you have installed applications whic remove dvd protectionslike dvd idle pro,this thing is normal.If that's the case then configure the app.

Do you have it set to prompt you for every type of disc? (Music, Pictures, Video, Mixed Content, etc)

Have run through the link you posted and everything is as it should be but still no joy. Also, it is set to prompt me for EVERY type of disc.

Go to Start -> Run, type services.msc and hit OK.

Look for "Shell Hardware Detection", make sure it's set to automatic and started. Try rebooting if you had to make any changes.

Yep ! It is set to Auto and Started.

OK, one last thing I know to try is the Autofix tool (written by Mi¢ro$oft, but is unofficial):

Worked a treat !!
Went through the procedure and it found 1 error, which it fixed. After a restart, it is auto reading all CD's and DVD's

Cheers guys.

Only thing I can think of that may have caused it is maybe some of the DVD creation software I installed over crimbo.
Only other thing I saw was while using the Nero inf tool. I noticed it said that "ASPI was not installed" whereas on my old PC, it always WAS
Don't know exactly what that is though [ponder]

It says ASPI NOT INSTALLED and the option it gives is to install NERO ASPI. Dont know what it means though.

ASPI, the Advanced SCSI Programming Interface provides an API originated by Adaptec which standardises communication on a computer bus between a SCSI host adapter on the one hand and SCSI (and ATAPI) peripherals on the other.... SOURCE: Wikipedia

SO do install it...

on my system I have both installed (Adaptec installs to the System32 Folder and Nero in its App Folder)...
