Hi guru gang,

I have a windows 2000 server and exchange 2000 server running in a 10 workstation environment.

One, and only one, of my users complains that his emails to anyone outside of our domain gets sent twice. Any ideas on how why this may occur?

I am about to switch over to host our own SMTP mail on the server, but currently our DNS MX records point to our old email host, which then forwards them to us. Could this somehow be related to the problem, and if so, how come only one user seems to have the duplicates?

Thanks ever so much.

The MX record is for incoming mail , so that's not the problem.
Enable tracing for that user to see what happens.
Have him/her send a message to you on an external account (Hotmail or so) and check the headers to see if there is a different sender address or any other irregularities. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

Thanks for the advice. And from this week's super all-forum guru no less! The very Alice Cooper of TechTalk!

I enabled tracing and had him send a message. In the Message Tracking Center I see nothing...not a thing. And then I realized that all outgoing mail must be going through our old SMTP host and the problem must lie there.

Either way, I learned about tracking messages, so that is good. Chances are, when we start hosting our SMTP mail in house, I expect the duplication problem to dissappear.

Thanks.

Here's Alice [blush]
No really, keep us up to date if you traced down the problem. If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.
