I am trying to map a network drive to a server and when I try to login, it gives me the error "you were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again."

I am confident that there is no other computer with the same name and have also changed the name. No luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This would be my first procedure...

Remove the workstation from the domain, clear all WINS and DNS records (including reverse DNS records), and remove the computer account from the domain. Reboot the workstation and re-add it to the domain.

By any chance have you added a static route (using the route add command) to that server. I have had the happen to me when I disconnected a server interface but I could still ping the server. If this is the case, try deleting the static route.

I ended up changing the IP of the old server that we just replaced. Even though the names were different, it must have been looking at the IP. Thanks for the help!
