Yes, somehow, I did it and I have a duplicate fonts folder on my Windows 98 machine. If I try deleting the folder, I get nasty warnings. If I try deleting the contents of the duplicate folder, it deletes the fonts files in the duplicate folder AND in the c:\windows\fonts folder. I right-click the files in the duplicate folder, and the properties read that the font files are in c:\windows fonts, even though I am viewing them in that duplicate folder. I guess it's a pointer thing? 3 questions:
I googled the issue, and my heart sank as I read the 12 steps requiring lots of backups, DOS, and a strong heart. (1) Is there an easier way to get rid of the extra folder?
(2) I have been reduced to moving the folder to c:\windows and calling it "DoNotRemove". Will that hurt anything?
(3) The only way I've found to copy font files is to do a Find for the font file name, and copy it from the Find Results screen to the directory I want
Any dinosaurs or sympathetic folks out there who can help?

Dinoaurs??
None of those, only folks who like lean, clean operating systems! :)

Here's a quick suggestion, but don't try it until you've heard some other views:

Copy, for backup reasons, all the fonts in your Fonts folder to some safe location and go ahead deleting the fonts from the duplicate folder. I understand this will delete from the proper folder also. Rename/delete the duplicate folder.

Open up the original folder and re-install your fonts using the File/Install New Fonts option.

As I said, wait for some other views on this solution before you try it, as the outcome is uncertain, to say the least...... Can Windows function with no fonts in the folder?
Andy.

Regards, Andy.

Thanks to all who replied. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not make this easy to fix for those of us with weak hearts. I did like the Google Groups posting and see what I can from there that seems less nerve-wracking than hacking the registry or booting up in SAFE mode (I am quite the chicken). :)
