How does one decide whether to use a single or dual CPU set up? I'm running a Windows 2000 small business server with aprox 25 users. At the moment its mainly file and print serving but we are rewriting our main database app to and will be switching to .NET with SQL Server backend and I now have the oportuity to replace our server.

SQL can multithread so could I assume a dual CPU set up would be more efficient? Are there any calculations I can use to help me decide?

Thanks,
Jamie

Dual CPU would seem to suit your app - running NT or better with a lot of CPU activity required. I dont know of any concrete tests though.

Those new cpu's have multithreading also. So, if you have two cpu's then task manger shows 4!
Since servers' last for years I would get the dual cpu's with hyperthreading. In the life of that server more apps. will be developed to take advantage of the processors.
They do not cost that much more.
