OK guys, here's my problem. I just installed XP Pro to my W98 & W2K system to give it a spin, and now I can't boot into W2K (or 98). Before I started this is what I had:
Primary disk E: W98SE Fat32
C: W2K NTFS
D: DATA NTFS
Secondary disk L: Fat32 EMPTY
M: Fat32 EMPTY

I installed XP to L. All went well as far as I could tell and it seems to run just fine (although it does look like Fisher Price). Here's the problem, I only get the choice of XP or W2K, no 98 (which doesn't really bother me) but when I try to boot into W2K I get a black screen with the message in upper left corner saying <windows root>\system32\hal.dll corrupt or missing please reinstall. I've done a search from XP and can't find this file anywhere on C,D,L,M. Drive E is not visable. HELP!!!

HI
Try removing the second harddisk and then restart with only first harddisk.

Ramani,
I'm sure that would work, but I'm looking for a more practical solution. I went ahead and installed PartitionMagic, and after using it discovered that "E" drive is now hidden. I suspect that that is where my missing file is located. I'm afraid to make it visable because, according to PM I might change drive letters. I don't know what to do. I also thought of installing BootMagic but I can't have 2 copies of it on the same machine and in order to uninstall the first copy (on "E") I'd have to make it unhidden. What to do?

To find the file try "unhiding" the partition, boot into win2K and set the partition letters as necessary. I don't think installing an additional copy of BootMagic will help in this case, but will only complicate the matter when you unhide the drive.
