I am doing a DTS import, and it fails during the process because of bad data in a particular incoming field. But i would like it to show me which incoming row is wrong, so that I can troubleshoot/fix it/whatever. As it is, I'm left guessing as to what data values it thinks it does not like.

I sense this is probably quite do-able, if I am (firmly) pointed in the right direction. Any suggestions?

thanx

Pretty easy ... In your package, right-click on your "Transform Data Task" and choose properties. go to options and set an exception file up. when it fails, it will write the line number for you
Thanks

Okay, thanks for your reply. I can look at that tomorrow, but I believe I have tried that already: (not sure). Won't that tell me which line number in the Transform script that is bombing, not the row number in the input data file that contains the bad data and actually caused the error?

BTW, the incoming file is a mainframe database table, set up as an ODBC source in my DTS package.

It will tell you what row number in the input file is causing the DTS package to fail. i also have another trick if that fails. i have a daily DTS package that imports web records in a text format that i have had the same issue you are relaying here.
Thanks

Okay, thanks again, I will look into that. If anyone has tips&tricks of any kind, I am all ears.

many thancs

Okay, that works, thanks a lot, mate.

Did you mention you also had another tip to pass along?
