DTS-Import textfile

Hi,

I have a textfile that isn't importing correctly.

Basically what happens is that the end of a line in the textfield isn't triggereing the creation of a new record. I've tried several settings (type of txtfile, EOL character etc)in the DTS package, but no success.

Is there anybody who has a thought about why this is happening and maybe knows of a solution?

goabck to whoever you get this from and find out what they are using as the end of line indicator when they create it and then make your dts match that. I suggest ctrl-linefeed which is the most common one.

Hi,

thanks for your response. i't is a SAP output file, ANSI. It has been used in MsAcces for a year, imported daily without problem. i'm converting a acdess app into a SQl server app and tried every type of line ending.
I am hoping somebody can tell me how the import DTS works. I rather not go into programming a parsing function...
