DSum function? i'm not sure

this is my first post so i hope i say this right

I have a table where users enter amounts of inventory changes for parts. I need to see or at least report a running or current sum for the parts that have been received or shipped.

I think DSum sounds close to what I want but I don't really have a criteria. I just want to see totals for all of the parts shipped even tho they appear in different rows in the table.

???any suggestions? Someone said I should mention that I am using access97.

For each part, have a computed field =Quantity*Cost to give a total cost, then DSum the computed field to give a total cost.
