DSL and Solaris 8

I have a solaris 8 server and will be connecting a DSL line from Speakeasy. Besides the IP information, is there anything that needs to be configured or installed for communication to occur?

csgonan... One thing you are going to need to populate is the file /etc/resolv.conf. This file contains the DNS server information. A look at what this file contains can be seen at:

http://ka1fsb.home.att.net/resolve.html

You will also need the file /etc/defaultrouter. This IP address is the same as the Default Gateway that you see in your DSL modem set up or if you run ipconfig /all on a PC.

Another thing is you may want to copy /etc/nsswitch.dns to nsswitch.conf. This will tell the OS to use DNS from host name resolution.

Thank you for your info. I had thought about all the normal routing/IP files, but was reading some posts that are older (since the OS is older) and they were talking PPPoe protocol and such.

This is going to be at an off-site location and I was told they have an adapter for the phone line on one side and the ethernet on the other. I wondered if there was anything else, as they didn't know.

there was nothing I needed to do but set the regular network settings (route, hostname.interface, etc). This just worked.
