DSA via Network

I have a G3R running version 7 software. I am currently using DSA to administer the switch. I am set up with a direct serial connection and an INADS dailup as well. I was wondering though, how would I set up a network connectio to the switch? I see there's an option for it at the connection set up screen in DSA, but I'm unfamiliar with it. Thanks!

You would need to have a C-LAN card in your PBX and also be at version 9 or 9.5, I can't remember which. At that version you can setup an IP address off of the switch to be used as a SAT terminal.

Man, that was fast. I'm assuming that once I have V.9 software and a C-LAN card the documentation will show me the steps needed to make all the appropriate connections. Thanks Randyb19!

Once you get the C-Lan card installed and your switch upgraded, you go into DSA and select Add a new switch, choose type "Network". Input the IP address, default emulator (4410), and I believe the port number is 5110.

.....and "ch ip serv" as well, set up a SAT over IP...

FYI,

Several people have noted that some versions of DSA/ASA fail to connect/bring up a login prompt. If this occurs, login manually and once you get a dead screen hit <Crtl-n> and you will get a login prompt.

Another solution is to implement a device called the Lansat-10. This is a quick and easy way to be able to administer your switch from the network or via the Internet. I have been using for almost a year and it works great. Retail price is $525. You will still need the C-Lan card though. If interested the website is:

I thought the lanstat was a simple terminal server allowing you to connect to an RS232 device via IP. Why in the world would you need a CLAN? An R7 wont support SAT via IP/CLAN period so I can't see why a CLAN would make any difference. -CL

The C-Lan can work in conjunction of rev 9 at the earliest and the default port is 5111, as setup on my switch.

Thanks for the clarification on the Lansat. I was under the impression that the C-Lan card was needed.
