I have a new ipOffice 406V2 (4.1(27) with a new DS30 module. The DS30 doen't seem to be working. There is a green light on the front of the unit, and it will reset with the 406V2, which implies communications between the modules, but 5410 telephone won't register, and in Manager, you can't see the hardware.
I was wondering if there was a way to default the DS30 module through the db9 connector on the back of the unit.

What version of manager are you using. those modules need to be upgraded when you get them. if you are going into 4.0 or 4.1 then they need the 3.2.999 upgrade as well.

My appoligy, the ipOffice 4.1 is a (9) not a (27).
I am using Manager 6.1 (9).

I can't seem to upgrade the DS30 because it doesn't show up in the upgrade wizard.

Leave the DS 30 plugged in, reboot the IP office. The DS30 needs to be on so the IP office will see it on a reboot. If both reboot together then it won't work.

Did you plug in the module into an expansion port in the back with the blue cable?

Yes.
I also just disconnected the module and plugged a serial cable into the db9 connector in the back of the DS30. I am getting a error:

LEDTICK: :Slip Error at 2523 ms

This error just keeps repeating.

That's a new one on me. Did you rebot the entire system by completly cutting the power, not just reboot via software?

Yes, many times. I guess I may just have a bad module.

Have you tried an another expansion slot?
Did you try to change the cable?

Disconnect all the power, plug the DS back in, wait for 30sec and then plug in the IPoffice.

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

I don't have another DS 30 module, but I did have another bule cable. I tried it, and the same problem.

Do you think that I had to update the DS30 module before I updated the 406V2 to a 4.1? That wouldn't be practical.

Interesting problem.

Try by typing AT + ENTER via DB9, if the module answers "OK" you could have the chance to upgrade the DS firmware via DB9.

I have a new ipOffice 406V2 (4.1(27) with a new DS30 module.

have you upgraded the DS30?
New DS30s will be shipped on version 2.1.27 which will show in Manager as 4.1.27

Pound to a penny it hasn't been upgraded...

Don't forget that the DS30 is a 2 stage upgrade

Take Care

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I have connected a db9 to the DS30 and I do get an OK. I have even typed AT-X2 & AT-X3 but it still doesn't work. How would I upgrade thru the DB? What would the command be? Is it with a tftp server?

The DS 30 has not been upgraded. It doesn't showup in Manager, and I now have a red light on the unit although I do get an OK from the DB9 connection.

Sounds you ruined the DS30, did you ever read any manual?
NEVER EVER Erase software of a expansion unit with a serial cable.
If you are lucky you can bring it back to live.

Does the unit show up in the config, if no then it ends here if yes continue:
Shut down all firewalls and other security software on your PC.
give your PC a fixed IP Adress in the same subnet as the IP Office.
Open Manager, set the working directory for the bin files and the config files to the root directory of the manager application.
Set the discovery to 255.255.255.255.
Open the config and put your PC IP Adress in the IPO as the tftp server.
Send config back with a full reboot, enable the tftp log.
If you are lucky then the unit will try to fetch its firmware through IP Office, if not -> bad luck.

It the red light is now on on your DS 30 you can:

Connect the DS to the main unit, as usual;
Point your Manager with a fixed IP addr to the DS30 bin file;
Start Manager and CREATE a new config that INCLUDE the DS30;
Send the config to your 406v2 then reboot;
Start your FTTP wiever, you should see (SLOWER than usual)the bin file loading to DS through the 406.
If everythingh is ok it will restart with green light.

Try unplugging all of the DS ports on the system. Do you have any 4424LD's? These are not supported on 4.0 and above. Having only one of these types of sets plugged into any module will cause the weird behavior you are experiencing.

testman1,
I would suggest that you find an experienced IPO tech to train you. I would also wonder if you are aware of the IPOfficeinfo.com site which has links, and resources for the IPOffice including installation manuals, and job aids. Avaya also has a resource for training called Avaya university, where you can get what is called a product authorization credential which has a path for training you on the IPO as part of the AU training path. The BP you work for is required to have two techs with the implement PA in order to get support from Avaya, and to be authorized to implement the IPO. You might want to check into that, as well as a few manuals.

4.1.27 = 2.1.27 = you cannot use 54 series handsets at all.
