DropDownList changes content in another DropDornList

Hello, i hope this doesn't post twice

The thing is im creating a form for a school,

and i have a dropdownlist (ddlDepartment) where an individual should select the department they would like to be apart of,

whenever they select whichever department,
another dropdownlist (ddlprogramme) should appear with the different programmes of the selected department.

And your question is...? How do you do this?

Once something is selected in the first drop down, run a function that populates the 2nd dropdown based on the selection in the first....
