Strange one which I have not come across. Speaking to a friend in IT and said his new company doesn't use drive mappings, instead they use UNT. Anybody have any ideas as to what he is talking about??

Have never come across this and would like to look into what this is and how this is done.

UNC - Universal Naming Convention

Without a drive letter mapping, shares on the network are available through their "full" name or UNC. For example myfile.doc, located in share \\server\mydocs is accessible to most programs by simply entering \\server\mydocs\myfile.doc. You would get a listing for the file by typing \\server\mydocs, and could save a file by typing \\server\mydocs\filename.

Explorer for example can use its address bar for exactly this purpose.

Is that all? Never known anyone to do it this way. Seems a very long winded way about things
