I have 4 drives

2 of them are giving the following error.

What is the fix for this error?

Tue 11:32:42 media warning: /dev/rmt/2cbn opening: I/O error
Tue 11:32:42 /dev/rmt/2cbn read open error, I/O error
Tue 11:32:49 media info: failed unloading drive `/dev/rmt/2cbn' to slot '25', error '69'

Any info is appreciated. Thanks

This error too pls.

nsrjb: Jukebox error: Tue 12:18:25 `/dev/rmt/0cbn' is not a valid device

Look at the device in your jukebox and check whether NW is talking to the right one (with media inserted). If the media has been loaded into the wrong one, read I/O errors are obvious.

To correct the problem, swap the cables for the "defective" devices.

Well it's a bit strange because the jukebox was fine 2 days ago. Yesterday the machine started shaking and flipping out. Today I can't get past 0cbn. I disabled it but it won't let me do anything on the other drives because it can't get past 0cbn.

Here is what my nsrjb output is:

drive 1 (/dev/rmt/3cbn) disabled
drive 2 (/dev/rmt/2cbn) disabled
drive 3 (/dev/rmt/1cbn) slot :
drive 4 (/dev/rmt/0cbn) disabled

I have reset the hardware.

Any other advice.

Thanks

The question is whether your current system setup is wrong or whether the jukebox configuration is defect.

You can either try to restore the configuration files from the last good bootstrap using:

recover -S bootstrap_ssid -a /nsr/res

or just reconfigure your jukebox.

Ok so I reconfigured.

Also replaced 3 of the drives.

Still getting the error .... inquire looks good to me

Still getting this. What's the exact command or run through to reset. Thanks for your help.

The SCSI command "Inquiry", initiated by NW's inquire command, queries the SCSI bus(ses) and returns all SCSI devices found. However, it does not talk to the OS and reports the configured devices.

As you can see, there is no device handle listed to the right (as you see it for the disks). This means that you also need to make the OS aware of the hardware. Usually this is done by a specific boot option (for example, on Solaris, boot with "boot -r").

It does not make sense to reconfigure NW beforte the OS sees the devices!

If you can't tell I need "Legato for dummies" :)

Anyway I'm trying to delete the devices and then re-add them in the correct order, in the jukebox but I keep getting this error:

Incorrect number of values in 'loaded volumes', should be 3

What's the fix?

Legato is new to me so please understand my pain...

O.K. this should be correctable byre-inventoring the jukebox. Simply run "nsrjb -I" from the command line.

I ran the Inventory and I still get the error:

Incorrect number of values in 'loaded volumes', should be 3

The strange thing is also I was able to run a successful backup on friday using 2 of the drives. After that backup finished and I tried to use the other drives I started to get the "read open/ i/o errors" on all of them again.

What do you think?

I also meant to add this to the previous post. I am not sure what this means. I try to run a backup with only one drive enabled. I get this messages consistently.

Mon 10:12:27 nsrjb notice: nsrjb -j ADIC-458 -O169 -l -R -M OPS.015

I guess I just need to be sure whether this is a hardware or software issue.
