Hi,

I have a laptop on which I need to run scheduled backups using Norton Ghost 9.0. I set up Ghost and created the backup job. I directed Ghost to backup the C: drive to the E: drive -- E: being the drive letter assigned to a removable USB Seagate hard disk. However, backup did not run as per schedule. On checking I found that the laptop also has a removable USB CD-ROM drive. The user unplugged this drive during the day and rebooted the laptop, with the result that the USB hard disk was assigned drive D: instead of E:. This, obviously, stumped Ghost...

How can I (or can I at all) get Windows 2000 to always assign drive E: (or D:, doesn't matter as long as it doesn't change) to the Seagate USB hard disk? I don't see anything in Device Manager that would allow me to specify a drive letter for the removable drive...

Thank you for your help in advance.

This can be done using the Disk Management section of the Local Computer Management snap-in. Access it through selecting the right-click "Manage" option on the My Computer icon.
