Dreamweaver whitespace issue

I hand code my pages in Dreamweaver and then upload to a remote server. I've found that when I re-download(Get) a file from the remote server to the local server, I'm often getting additional lines between my code.

The original may have no blank lines between the code. After a while I may get the file from the remote server to the local server, and when I open it I often get an empty line appearing between each line of code.

I can make edits and then upload the file again. If I try re-downloading it sometime later it will often be the same (with no added empty lines), but often there will be another empty line. So now there will be two lines between each line of code.

The most this has gone up to so far is 8 blank lines between each line of code. This was in the file that I download, edit and re-upload the most.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? I have used Dreamweaver MX 2004, Dreamweaver 8 and Dreamweaver CS3 for the past three years and the problem that I'm trying to solve here isn't limited to one version of Dreamweaver. This leads me to believe that this isn't specifically a Dreamweaver problem, but I thought I'd ask here just in case.

Any ideas?

Thanks Chris, but unfortunately the line break entry in the tag library is set to 'no line breaks' on all of our computers already and we're still getting this problem. Cheers for the reply though.

Any other ideas?
