Good day folks,

I'm not familiar with Dreamweaver, but see references to it and Frontpage being the top 2 choices for those like myself who want/need to use a design application for web pages.

A little background to precede my Dreamweaver question:

So far, Frontpage has been aggravating because of "server extensions" required to be active on the hosting server. Periodically the features that require those extensions (themes, for example) fail, and of course the web site looks all askew. The hosting company tech's answer is to activate/deactivate the Frontpage server extensions. This has been done more times than I think should have to be endured.

Further negative point is that if using the bells/whistles that Frontpage offers (and requires the server extensions to be active), one MUST use Frontpage to upload/sync changes instead of a simple FTP transfer.

The Dreamweaver questions:

Does Dreamweaver also require any server-side stuff similar to Frontpage's server extensions?

And can Dreamweaver designed pages be uploaded via FTP?

Thanks in advance for any help, as I don't know anyone who has used Dreamweaver.

No it doesn't

Yes they can

And it is far superior (IMO) in just about every other way you could think of!

I second all of that

I also agree with the comments of the other two. I would also point out that if you do want to use FTP Dreamweaver has a built in tool that I find quite nice and easy to use - but it does not lock you in to using it.

Good luck with your decision making!
