Hi.

Anybody out there tried Dreamweaver MX yet? If you have can you give me some idea what you think about it? I have to download it over a dialup so, naturally enough, I want to download it when it's quieter. (all 64 Mb of it).

I would welcome any feedback.

Well, it is bearly just hitting the shelves.

I am not a 'power user' or even qualified to comment, but as I have spent the past two weeks digging through DWUD trying to get my feet wet with a new application I just picked-up, I can tell you that after downloading DWMX and playing with it about 20 minutes, I noticed an incretible difference.

The UI is out of this world in comparison to the original and most importantly, you can now print your code without needing a third party extension :0) which I needed desperately. The UI is very consistance to FLASH and I suspect that other MM products (MX versions) will have the same look and feel. To me, this makes a lot of sence as it makes it much easier to those of use that use several of their products.

Oh, did I mention they added .NET? That's right, the MX version also handles .NET in addition to all others we already had.

They added tabbed toolbar. The toolbar can now display all sort of options by mearly choosing the tab. They added a pane similar to ColdFusion where you can view your databases and their respective tables.

I mean, it goes on and on ... mind you, this is just what I noticed inside of 20 minutes !!!????

Go get it !!!

Hi All,

I have been playing with DWMX for the last couple of days and I'm very impressed...but I have come across something that I have some concerns about. Two extensions that I have used on a web site do not work correctly. UD Cart and hlooper2 both came up with javascript errors after installing them in DWMX.
Has anyone else come across problems with any other extensions?

My first gripe.

If you use the MX layout, there is zero multi-monitor support. If I switch to UD4 layout I can open multiple windows on multiple monitors.

I also found that it is more intensive on the resources than UD4.

Granted, I'm on a machine that is not meant to be able to handle Server 2000 - so it takes enough resources as it is. But MX will give me nice error codes and abruptly shut down - I cannot restart MX up without rebooting the computer.

However if I switch to UD4 - I can continue to design to my little hearts content.

Although, if I've made a page in MX - UD4 will recogize most of it - but it will not recognize the data bindings. A little strange, but what the heck.

Ahh, Mr C, there lies our real first gripe. Is MX backwardly compatible with UD4? Granted that Flash or Director files aren't I'd expect a system that is the world's leading design package to be as flexible as poss. IF you were sending me a file created in MX, I would like to be able to open in UD4 and then marvel at the sheer audacity of your coding.

Just a thought.

Audacity of MY Coding!!!!!

Why thems, thems, THEMS fightin words!

[noevil]

p.s. my first real gripe was the no multi monitor support. I like ta spread out, workin room here. "Insert witty remark here"

Gee, some folk are a bit touchy huh? 2 monitors huh? Gosh, all I can hope for is a colour monitor some time soon. Guess that explains my color schemes!

So, if you get MX your shopping cart (UD Cart), you can't edit it in MX????? I GOTS TO KNOW!

<%If NOT,
then
can you have both UD4 and MX installed and use them independently????

You can edit UD4 stuff in MX

You can't always edit MX stuff in UD4 "Insert witty remark here"
