drawing on a path (motion guide)

Hi every body,

I'd like to know if it is possible for a clip to follow a guide and as it goes, it traces the line.

I am trying to find how some animation are made...I'd like to draw a circle (well, that a clip draw a circle) on a image background (so a flat rectangle wouldn't be good)

any idea or tutotial would be good
