Drag and Drop off form

I know how to drag and drop an item to another place on the same form, but not sure how to drag it off the form. can anyone help out?

Do you mean dragging from one form to another one of your own forms, or to another application?

What I want to do is drag an icon to another app then get info from that app (such as it's startup path) to use in my app.

So....then the icon doesn't stay on the other app? You're not dropping anything in the other app? Just trying to kind of hit test it and get information about it?
