DR3 vs DR5 software

On a similar question to the one I posted below, I'm using an old M8X24-DS with DR3 (NT5B24DC) card. This system does not hold programming during a power outage. After my UPS runs out, (generally 30 mins) I have to do a full reprogam, which after 6 months, I forget many tricks and have to relearn. Does the DR5 card solve this problem or do I have to put a newer frame in. My use is 4 lines with 8 instruments. Does the 616 frame help in any way? Thanks

DR 5 will hold as long as the capacitor that is in the software cartridge is good. But I thought the same was true with DR3 maybe someone here can verify.

DR3 is a 2-piece cartridge like the DR5. The memory caps are in the data cartridge. These can be replaced if you're good with a soldering iron. Available from

well the cartridge is a single plug in- with pencil marks of DR3 written on it. it does have 2 tags: NT5B24DC & NT5B49FA on it. There is also a plug in module on the right of the frame that says NT5B26. This appears to be an expansion module. I can certainly change caps. I assume they are electrolytics and on the DR3 module? correct?

Is this frame & cards an acceptable system or should I consider upgrading?

If it works for you no need to upgrade besides if you upgrade make sure you check any voice mail attached because it may need upgrading also.

If it's a 1-piece cartridge then the large cap on the 824 motherboard needs to be replaced, and it's a bear to get at. It would be easier to just buy a DR5 cartridge with new caps already installed, but if you decide to go ahead then Refurb Supplies should have the memory cap for the 824.
