We currently run Excel 97 on top of NT4.0.

One user is experiencing a Dr Watson error when she tries to use the Track Changes facility within Excel.

The message received is an application error has occured and the cause is Access Violation OxC0000005 Address 0x3009f196

There is nothing in Event Viewer.

Another user and myself tried the same spreadsheet and got the same message. Any ideas on what may cause this?

I recieved this error constantly when working with larger documents (600+ pages) with trackchanges turned on (especially when performing an action that required repagination).

Our IT department concluded that we were using corrupt templates and/or our machines had insufficient memory. I have not recieved the error since switching machines and creating new templates from scratch.

Thanks for that - I do believe we have narrowed it down to a this one particular spreadsheet being a problem, so I guess there must be some sort of 'corruption' on it (although it's fine in all other ways).

Thanks again.

Could be as simple as just copying the sheets to a new workbook rather then setting it all up from scratch again....

Yep, I agree with that and I recommended that the user do that. If she'd have "saved as" something else, she would have taken any problem over with her. Mind you, no guarantees that copying & pasting won't do that either ;)

Still no further reports so I am ok for the moment.

Thanks.
