Hello all, we have a Cisco 3640 router we would like to get the newest IOS for. We do have a CCO account we log into, but it says we do not have access to download the IOS. It says we need more access, ect.. The warranty is out on them. Does this mean we will have to buy a service contract from them to download one file?

You can always purchase the latest IOS image on CD if you do not want to bring the 3640 under maintenance. Your Cisco reseller can help you with this.

To legally download a new IOS image, you must have that device under maintenance.

ComputerHighGuy is right about the legalities, but (and i have run into this before with our reseller and it pisses me off) sometimes the reseller will FORGET to file the SmartNet Contracts EVEN THOUGH you paid for them and you will be only able to log on with "guest" privileges after your existing contracts expire (and they clean up their dbase). No you will not be able to legally download a copy for the 3640, but you need to get in Contact with Cisco and file your Serial Numbers for the Devices that you purchase Contracts for (like your PIX). I suggest you call them.

That's correct. And, as a reseller, I would say that it is a good idea to always follow through yourself with Cisco to make sure your reseller did his job right.
Remember, they work for you. If your reseller isn't taking care of you, you should get a new one. Always check up on them, and make sure they are doing it right.
