I have a site at the server of a hosting company, where I stored an Access database mainly collecting application data and reporting results. Before I took over, the former users had been downloading the whole database when they had new application data in. Now it is becoming a problem, because number of the files in the database dramatically increases after the website increased a lot of functionalities. However, the application data collected increases only a little bit. What I am thinking is to just download the collected application data tables, not the whole database (it is too time consuming to do that). I thought about separating the database, but there is huge amount of work involved. Can anyone give some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Maybe you could elaborate a little. You seem to be saying the Access (Jet?) database increased in size but that this was not mainly due to data. An Access database for a website wouldn't normally have much in it apart from tables.

Next thing to ask is do you compact the database on a daily/weekly basis? Jet can contain huge amounts of unused space if you don't clean it up.

Otherwise just make sure you timestamp updates. Then you can create a download of changes to apply to your local copy, rather than downloading the whole database each time.

I have about 5 application data tables to be downloaded and 20 other tables for list and report uses, such as US ZIP code list. I do compact it from time to time. But no matter what, it takes more than 3 MB in size. Uploading is even worst.

BTW, what is the timestamp updates that you mentioned. How do I do it?
