i have a file that i believe i downloaded from morphious that when i double clicked it sent my cpu soaring and began corrupting my hard drive--what i believe happened was it hid my files...i ended the task before it did too much damage. Anyway some files that I cant find are mp3's...the funny thing is that they still play in my winamp player saved list but i cant find them on my hard drive. I want to delete this file but i cant...is there a manual way to do it and how can i find my mp3 files.

thanks

When running W2K, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and go into the task manager. Check your running processes, and see what's taking your resources. Check for things like Sirc32.exe, and anything unusual...maybe the nimbda virus.

End the process for anything suspicious, and see what happens. You can always reboot, and they'll all startup again.

Once you find out what's causing it - check symantecs site

..for a list of removal tools. Or, search Google.com for information on whatever virus you have.

Morpheus is a large file-sharing community, and I guarantee you not all of it's users are using antivirus software. I use file-sharing software, and catch virii almost everytime I use them...spend the $$$, and get Norton Antivirus, and keep it updated.

Hope this helps some..

After downloading an .exe from Morpheus app I contracted a virus which infected my system. I did not have an AV program installed but noticed strange things happening with intermittent processor spikes. After downloading Norton AV, a scan revealed over 700 files (all .exe's) were infected with the W32.Weird virus.

Most advanced trojans can hide themselves from the task menu.

pbxman is dead-on. Purchase an AV program and save yourself future problems.

Im on it! Thanks for help and advice!

I too had the same problem recently as TekKnowGeek. I downloaded a few file from Grokster (Morpheus remade basically) and I noticed the same things but also noticed that it was causing my internet to slow down very noticably.
I was infected as I found out after insatlling Norton AV 2002 with W32.Weird.

Has anyone else had the problem of it slowing net and network access????

I downloaded a virus from morpheus and it has effected my ability to open up any programs that I download. Plus I can't get into Norton Antivirus to scan for viruses. I need some major help so I can get rid of this. What kind of virus is this?

The problem with Peer2Peer file sharing programs is viruses can spread and spread quickly. You need to be very careful of items you download off the Morphues and such. Especially because Viruses can be appened to files. For instance lets say I have a virus and a mp3 file. It is possible to combine them. To where when you open the file the MP3 music file will play but in the background the virus exe. will run. You definitely need to have some sort of AntiVirus software and be sure and keep that baby updated. As for Preppe99 sometimes a virus will even destroy the Antivirus software files. Try to reinstall your AV software and then scan. If not your best bet is to back up your data reinstall your OS + Applications and restore your data. This will completely clean your system and restore your registry back to the way it was. :( Big pain in the A$$ though!!! Acquisitive - 1. Characterized by a strong desire to gain and possess. 2. Tending to acquire and retain ideas or information :)
