Can anyone help me please!! I am running Win95 OS. I seem to have an intermittent
problem. When I try to open a desctop icon by double clicking it, it opens the
properties window as if I had right clicked on the icon.
Furthermore, when I am typing sometimes the keyboard stops working and acts as
though I have pressed CTRL and a letter for a specific action. Please someone give
me ideas as I have already replaced the CPU and RAM and formatted hard disk, and
reinstalled windows, but to no avail!! Thanks

Which desktop icons are you having a problem with - specific names? Have you received any messages when using the problem shortcuts? If so, what do the messages say?

Double clicking on ANY desktop icon produces this effect. There are no
messages whatsoever. Even if I right click for properties of Background etc
for screensaver or right click on an icon, the menu appears but then vanishes,
it will not stay on the screen. The same goes for pressing the Start button. The
menu appears but will not stay up.
Thanks for your help.

Have you checked the RAM in the machine? There is a free download for a program called DocMemory that will test your RAM. I have seen bad RAM cause quite a few problems.

Happy Holidays!

This is a problem with your alt key. somtimes the alt key is shorted out...or the windows shell didnt recieve the "keyup" event...either way....a "double click" of the alt key should work...however..that normally is reset on restart...i will bet that your keyboard has a problem, you might try pressing control and delete...if you get the control alt delete screen...the voila..its your keyboard

I have seen this happen if you are using activer desktop. Turn this off if you are using it.
